The Power of Humor is An Important Thing in Marketing

B-O-R-I-N-G

The same thing can be said about marketing and advertising. Which would you rather read about? 1. A droll report flinging out facts, figures, graphs and percentages dripping down the page like molasses in January. 2. Reading an article that supplies you with those same mind-numbing facts in a way that has you actually cracking a smile. I do not know about you, but I would prefer number 2.

Do not get me wrong facts, figures, graphs and percentages have their place in the marketing world. Heck, without them there would be nothing to write about and I would be out of a job as would tens of thousands of other people. It is not necessary to have your client snorting a drink through their nose as they read what you have to say. However, that does not mean a bit of levity or a spark of humor cannot be injected into what is otherwise a bland and uninteresting marketing campaign.

Kim Gerard knows the energy humor can generate. Kim is Oak Hill's leading Real Estate agent. While her competitors attempt to drown the townsfolk with adjectives describing why they are the better choice, Kim makes the process fun.

The business of selling and buying houses is not something that is done lightly and Kim knows it. Stress and anxiety are constants whether the person is a seller or a buyer. Will the house sell for the price we want? Will we get the mortgage rate we can afford? Where to look...what to ask for...how to apply. It can be overwhelming.

Kim helps take that anxiety down a notch with her innate ability to see the humor in most situations. That is why her marketing campaign shows a cartoon character running down the street pulling on his hair while screaming the word "ARGH!" The caption underneath reads: When you are tired of running in circles not knowing where to turn, give me a call. I will put you on a straight line to a stress free real estate transaction.

On her website that same character describes the steps he will take you through to sell or buy a property. Each step links you to another page detailing the specific process and what can be expected. Page after page the character's facial expression changes from frustration until at the end he is smiling and jumping up and down with excitement. He has made it through and completed his journey to real estate success.
